This September 2nd holiday is the perfect time to grab your backpack and explore the mountains, enjoying the fresh air and natural scenery.
However, in the wilderness, your skin faces many “enemies” such as intense sunlight, insects, dehydration, and even scratches from physical contact.
Let’s join Resident Doctor, Specialist Level I Nguyen Dac Khoi Nguyen from Anh Tu Clinic to quickly review the essential steps to prepare your skin before the journey!

1. Restore your skin barrier before the trip
• Use gentle cleansers; avoid overusing exfoliating products (AHA, BHA, retinoids) right before departure
• Moisturize: choose non-comedogenic products with barrier-repairing ingredients like hyaluronic acid/glycerin – they hydrate while allowing sweat to evaporate
• Stabilize existing skin conditions (acne, eczema, etc.): continue with your current medications; avoid trying new products
2. Prepare a sun protection kit
• Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF ≥30, preferably water-resistant; don’t forget areas like ears, neck, backs of hands/feet
• Bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sun-protective clothing
3. Prepare a skin-friendly insect repellent kit
• Choose products with picaridin or natural ingredients suitable for sensitive skin
• Application rule: sunscreen first – insect repellent after
4. Prevent friction and blisters before you go
• Choose shoes that are breathable, roomy, and cushioned
• Choose socks made from merino wool/nylon/polymer with heel and toe padding – avoid cotton socks
• Trim toenails short and straight
5. Balance your nutrition, hydration, and electrolytes
• Drink plenty of water and replenish electrolytes (ionized water, coconut water, etc.) a few days before the trip – especially in hot summer weather
• Add antioxidant-rich foods (fruits, vegetables, nuts; vitamin C)
